The concept of Terres Neuves Consulting started with a number of conversations I had with industry leaders in investment management, across various functions (Distribution, Product, Marketing….).
I realised a good number of them had challenges in what I would call the Product area, be it the right product line up, what product to distribute where, how to differentiate their offering from what is out there. These are areas in which I have built my skill set over the years. I thought that my experience could be put to good use in supporting firms with their product agenda.
The name Terres Neuves means new territories, new horizons, thinking outside the box while using me as a catalyst for change, which I have done most of my career.
I decided to follow a nimble consultancy structure which allows the flexibility to partner with a number of clients on specific and challenging projects, without a cumbersome corporate structure on either side.
I do not follow a strict approach when working with managers. It always starts with a conversation around the challenges they are trying to solve, then agreement on the approach to follow.
My work with asset managers can take multiple forms:
- On site assignments for long term projects, such as setting a product marketing function, a due diligence process or a product innovation forum
- Focused time limited projects, such as development of an expansion plan into new territories
- Mentoring of existing staff in developing their skill sets to perform their role
To be successful, managers have to be razor sharp about what they are offering, have a clear view of why they are different from what is available from competitors and how they can help clients with their portfolios. Partnering with an external consultant with the skill set, the breadth and depth of experience, who is an innovative problem solver and catalyst for positive change is essential in helping asset gatherers shape and successfully carry out their product agenda.
